- The Boston font and documentation are of high quality. The documentation is 26
- pages of useful information on BostonII, typography and the Mac.

-
- Unfortunately, the manual is very heavily formatted--so heavily
- that a 128K Mac can't handle it, even with the disk-based MacWrite.
- Thus you'll find two versions of the manual: one is in one piece
- for 512 machines; the other is in four pieces (and somewhat
- simplified as well) for 128K machines. Both versions make the Mac
- work hard. At times you'll be sure the machine has bombed, but
- wait. It just needs a few minutes to think.

-
- If you know how to manipulate fonts, printing the manual is
- straightforward. (If you don't know how, I'll explain shortly.)
- Simply install in your System File every font in the file named
- Boston/MacWrite, then print out the manual using MacWrite. (N.b.:
- you must use the new MacWrite--version 4.5 or later. If you don't
- already have a copy, you can get one for free from your dealer.)
-
-
-
- DO NOT print out the manual using Microsoft Word. Word cannot
- convert the manual properly.

- If you don't know how to manipulate fonts, now is a good time to
- learn. All you need to do is run a simple program that you got with
- the latest upgrade of the System Disk and MacWrite. This program is
- called Font/DA Mover. It contains its own built-in instructions. To
- find those instructions, first open the program from the Finder,
- just as you open MacWrite. A dialog box will appear: click on the
- button labeled Cancel. The dialog box will go away. Now click on
- the button labelled Help. There are the instructions.
-
-
-
- To print out the manual, you will need to install in your System
- File each of the fonts in the file named BostonII/MacWrite. These
- take up a lot of space, so you may have to remove some fonts that
- are already there. If you are uncomfortable doing this, I suggest
- you set up a special, experimental MacWrite disk (which you will
- probably adopt as your ordinary MacWrite disk as soon as you print
- out the manual, and see what BostonII can do). Here are
- step-by-step instructions:
-
-
-
- 1. Insert a blank disk, and name it New MacWrite Disk.
-
- 2. Copy your System Folder onto New MacWrite Disk.
-
- 3. Copy Font/DA Mover onto New MacWrite Disk.
-
- 3. Copy the file BostonII/Macwrite onto New MacWrite Disk.
-
- 4. On New MacWrite Disk, select Font/DA Mover, and open it.
-
- 5. A dialog box will appear: click on Open.
-
- 6. On the left youUll see a minifinder listing all the fonts you
- are used to seeing on your fonts menu. Depress the shift key on the
- keyboard, and keep it depressed while you click on every font in
- the list, with these exceptions: Chicago 12, Geneva 9, Geneva 12,
- Geneva 18, Geneva 24, Monaco 9. Now release the shift key, and
- click on "Remove."
-
- 7. On the right youUll see a minifinder listing a lot of new fonts.
- Select them all, just as you selected the fonts in the last
- step--but click on "Copy" this time, not Remove.
-
- 8. Click on Quit.
-
- 9. Now you are back in the Finder of New MacWrite Disk. Throw away
- the Font/DA Mover, and the file BostonII-MacWrite.
-
- 10. Copy MacWrite onto New MacWrite Disk.
-
- 11. Copy BostonII/Manual onto New MacWrite Disk, and print it (in
- high quality) as you would print any other MacWrite document.
